In Favor of Luddismm - Or how I learned to dislike Podcasts

Over at Whitehall-paraindustries there is a great post about Luddism.

Well, not really since Luddism is a concept that I'm not really invoking- but I'll be called a Luddite for what I'm about to say anyway.
I hate pod casts, streaming video, and the like exploding upon rpg/greek scene. Yes, I'm looking at you RPG Circus and other similar things. This despite that fact that I find Zachary's blog interesting and fun.

This is a tough one. Considering that our podcasts are the most popular item at http://lordsoftyr.com, I'd have to say that your opinion is a bit out numbered [by consumers of our content].

A podcast is a totally different medium and I think it demands slightly different content. Blogs are OK for somethings, but they will never be as good for holding a group conversation about something as a podcast will be.

Earlier this year I started doing topics on our podcast only after there was a post on the website about it. This way people can read the content if they choose too. The podcast is more commentary and group discussion about those topics. I think it lends itself well to that.

I like to have some audio content besides music for my commute to work and for long trips. Podcasts are great for that.

I like the written word and I do prefer it most of the time, but podcasts can be a beneficial part blogging too. In our case, people are more passionate about the podcast so its in my best interest to keep that going. But the podcast would be no where without our blog articles.

So what is the best kind of medium? What do you people want? More articles and written content? More podcasts? What kind of formats do you like? Speak up and let your voice be heard. Certainly I'm doing most of this for my own reasons and fun, but part of that is listening to the readers/listeners and incorporating new and interesting things.

I've been trying to do some different things, like the live podcast recording so we can be more interactie with the fans during the podcast. We have also started including some popular faces from the RPG community into the mix with what I think is great success (Don't forget Chatty DM is going to be "Musing" with us tomorrow on the podcast!). These all seemed like good ideas and have worked out pretty good so far.

I'm thinking about doing mini podcasts based purely on the articles that are posted. Basically a straight read of the article. I was also thinking that grabbing different listeners and having them on the podcast would be fun too. But what about something more interesting or avant garde? Give us your feed back and we'll see what we can do.

The RPG minute

We could do a segmant in the podcast that is like the CNN minute on 92.7 progressive talk radio.  Only this would be better.  We could feature whatever "headlines" fans/Lords deam most worth for that week.  Just one of those avande garde things I thought of!

Cooker & Wench of the group. Doing my part to propagate the D&D world with 2nd generation gamers.
