Is it wrong that I don’t want to create my own campaign world? -
Many Dungeon Masters (DMs) aspire to be world creators. They create intricate campaign worlds with fully realized politics, cultures, and geography. They design unique races, monsters, and classes to compliment the vision of Dungeons & Dragons that they have in their head.
It is so weird that A Hero posted this week about this. I used to be a world creator. However time restraints have really put a crimp on that kind of thing for me over the last 7 years with the Lords of Tyr. I have recently had two campaign world ideas pop into my head. One is more simplistic and is something I think of purely because I know that the Lords of Tyr will be hosting games for the next generation of Lords and Ladies before too many more years. I think Chatty DM's ideas of doing some adventures for young folks is a great idea. I really hope his ideas come to fruition. If they don't I'll have to actually create a young campaign world and style for our next gen group myself. I certainly don't think I have time to do that. Go Chatty go!
My other campaign world has been brewing generally in my head for quite some time. It is a world a bit more true to perhaps the time frame of the crusades. I've always thought it would be interesting to have a world where the predominant religion was Christianity. I recently saw a this awesome History channel show about mass killings in France attributed to werewolves from a few hundred years ago that involved some possible intrigue with the Catholic Church and perhaps even royalty. Its all growing from there in my head. Then I started thinking about some things I could steal from the movie Ladyhawk and how I could work in magic properly. The I thought about how there could only be human characters. Certain monsters would just not exist either. I could easily have demons, devils, angels, undead etc... Those are all based in church lore. There is plenty to work with here I think.
Wow I have my work cut out for me with both of these ideas. Maybe I can combine them together?
