Only 5 Days Until our date with Shelly!

Okay, so it's not really a date, it's the podcast. But, I'm clearly smitten'. Girl crush or not, I have been beefing up on Shelly's articles, blogs etc. I was perusing her personal blog when I found a link called critcal hits. Seems to be a DnD website I haven't bumped into yet. They have a weekly poll called the inquisition and this week's was about how many women play in your primary gaming group. I voted (based on a consensus from Chad and I) that there is 1 woman in our group -- me.
Surprisingly the the results at the time were:
20% no women in their group (38 Votes)
29% 1 woman (55 Votes)
33% 2 women (62 Votes)
13% 3 women (24 Votes)
3% 4 women (5 Votes)
2% 5-9 women (3 Votes)
0% 10 or more (1 Vote)

This tells me two things A) there are plenty of gaming women out there. B) I clearly need a DnD BFF to come play in our group and well be my BFF twice a month.
Hmmmmm...how do you find a DnD BFF?
(For all the lovely men out there BFF is Best Friend Forever in crazy girl speak)

I'm such a geek
Yesterday I was checking email before we took Shane to wee care and guess who I called on skype . . . Shelly Mazzanoble! She was having some trouble with skype, but her little icon popped up to tel me she was online so I called her! And it worked! I can't tell you how cool it was to talk to her even for a few minutes in the we hours of the morning. I guess I scared the life out of her cat, Zelda, (sorry Zelda) but all in all it was great and now we both feel better about Sunday and getting the call working! Just thought I'd tell ya since I walked around all day telling Chad "I talked to Shelly" with a silly grin on my face!
For what it is worth -FYI
I know you do not want to spend all the time with Shelly talking about wooman in gaming but for what it is worth you can look at this:
How to Get Girls to the Gaming Table – and Keep Them Coming Back
Juat an FYI.

I just DMed a group of 3 men & 3 women
All,
This past weekend I DMed LFR at the Complete Strategist in King of Prussia, PA and had a group of 3 men and 3 women. I never noticed (I agree with he comment "your not a girl [and may I add, guy] when you play with us" on the last podcast) until afterward when I was telling my son. There is at least a couple girls/woman at one of the three tables playing on game day. That is good to see.
Good luck on your DnD BFF. I am sure you are not lonely when you play, but If I was playing with all woman in a home game I would want an other guy to join so I could chat about guy stuff before, during and afterward. There are exceptions, but guys are not as excited as kids and babies as woman are and you pregnant with twins you would have allot to talk about with an other woman there.

The Exceptions
The Lords are totally teh exception to the rule when it comes to discussing kids et al mama stuff. Most of the actually pay as much attention to Shane (at least when they first arrive at teh house) as they do the game. And the fact that no one ever, ever complains about the many ways he 'interupts' the game makes them the most patient gamers in the world. I think searching for a femail DnD BFF is more to do with a little commeradery with some one who's newer to DnD as much as the side conversation. It'd be interesting to find another woman that has similar interests as far as the gamer, sci fi world that also cares some what about how she looks when she walks out the door(like myself), and other things like that. It will be an interesting search I am sure.
I voted on this one too.
I voted on this as well (and even mentioned you in the comments if you check it out). I have been in a lot of other groups that had at least one female gamer other than the Lord's of Tyr as well over the years, so the numbers are not a surprise to me.
Finding other female gamers is probably complicated by the fact that it is often hard to find other gamers period! It was complete luck that I stumbled upon the founder's of the Lords of Tyr all those years ago. I only found out Chadarius and DLOB played because I happened to walk by when the two were having a conversation about GenCon.
Sincerely,

Yikes!
I would totally take offence to that "not a real gamer" comment as well! I think being a gamer means so much more than just the venue you play in. Console, or table top, family card games or board games, trivia or what not its all gaming. Also, I think the other things most gamers are into (comic books, tv shos and the like) are all as much apart of us as gamer as anything. It's an entire lifestyle that has a broad spectrum of the types of people who enjoy gaming. I'm totally a gamer at heart, just didn't come out until I met Chad
