Session #5: Wait...What Now?

This game caught me by a bit of surprise. Luckily, I had already had a rough idea of what was going on in Thish(ha!) and it was certainly interesting to see what came of it.
Last we left our intrepid adventurers...
- Merv the magnificent had returned to Sil, and the party wished to be teleported to Thish so that they can report the news to the Baron.
- When the party arrives to the tavern, they found out that the Merchant of Death has passed by there and any townsperson that interacted with him thought him to be a very nice and very honest merchant that seemed to have anything they needed right in his wagon.
- Upon learning this, the party immediately left for the Keep, as they also found out the Merchant somehow gained audience with the Baron.
- The Baron immediately gave an audience to the group, and the party proceeded to give the grave news of all of the Baron's men are dead or worse. He invited them into his chamber to elaborate and to show off a "simple" statue the merchant had given him as a token of his loyalty.
- Upon entering the Baron's chamber, the party did elaborate on just how dire the situation is. The sharp-eyed among them noticed a gold and silver statue that portrayed two men, seemingly twins, locked in a tremondous struggle. Upon closer inspection it was learned that 1) the statue had a residual feeling of evil upon it 2) the statue depicted Hextor and Heironeus, and Hextor was stabbing Heironeus with Vecna's dagger.
- It was soon realized the Baron was not himself, and strange twists of words led the group to believe he was under some sort of influence. At that point, Mahad deftly snagged the statue and hid it in his magical backpack. The group then left, being promised their reward for a job well done.
- They headed to the keep's chapel, where the head priest of Kord resided. They went there because the Baron mentioned the priest had examined the statue and stated it was quite alright.
- As the group approached the chapel, they heard sound's of celebration. It turned out there was a wedding going on. As the group was about to quietly wait, the Sword with Tal began to come out of its scabbard on its own accord. It eventually was unsheathed by Tal, and a struggle of wills ensued. There were two seemingly evil tainted individuals at the wedding, and the sword wished judgement. Tal won that contest, and resheathed the sword. Hermin, being a priest of Kord, quite deftly excused the group for their trespasses.
- Knowing they had little time, since the idea of the statuette being swiped had been communicated, the group decided to split up. Dair decided to disguise himself and join the wedding, hoping to communicate with the priest. Lianer and Hermin stayed right outside, just in case. Everyone else headed back to the inn.
- As time passed, Dair was able to seize an opening, and was able to communicate with the priest. He was able to set up a meeting for later that day, and then was grabbed by a member of the celebration and was thrust into a wrestling match! After some attempts at clever wrestling, Dair resorted to what he does best, which is make his opponent look one way while he swings from another, and his opponent was knocked out cold.
-As Dair was in his match, 2 of the Keep's guards came to get Hermin and Lianer, who were locked into a debate on whether to give the statue back. They were escorted into the throne room, where the Baron and his personal guard approached. With little discussion, and throwing Vecna's name out without a reaction, the statuette was returned to the Baron. The two then told the two guards with them to come join them at the wedding, and headed back to talk to the priest. Dair at this point had finally left.
- Hermin and Lianer had a small discussion with the priest, and eventually left to meet up with the others.
- The priest did show up later, and the barkeep emptied the inn for the occassion. A Heroes' Feast was prepared, and all ate heartily. The party recounted their tale, and apparently the priest thought the statuette a simple thing in the image of Kord. The priest said he would watch over the Baron, and would secure for the group's passage to Solaria.
- The next day, the group arrived in Solaria via the wind. They immediately went to the temple of Heironeus to speak with the High Priest. With Tal, a consecrated Harrier, and Lianer, a newly enshrined Shining One, the High Priest of the Church of Heironeus stopped a service to speak with them. After a brief discussion, the priest decided to speak with V'uun, and see what could be done.
- With nothing better to do, the group embarked on various errands. Og the Charitable, as he is now known, gave his not so meager fortune to the church of Pelor to do good deeds, even going so far as exchanging other coins he had for gold to do so. Simon also made a sizable donation to the Church. Simon went as far as notifying the entire church of Pelor that the church of Heironeus needs their help, and they quickly complied. This in turn made for a chaotic scene at the other temple, and the situation was eventually handled. Others shopped, and Dair even found out that Merv the Magnificent had reclaimed his rule over the Church of Boccob, at least in Solaria.
- Then the priest gated back from an Outer Plane, and had some dire news. He informed the party that things are just as they were and are now worse, and they now have a choice to make. He informed the group that V'uun was correct on the steps to be taken to stop the death of Heironeus. But he also told them that another ritual is to be performed, and this time targetting Kord. This ritual is supposedly taking place near Sil, the village the party most recently defended.
- The group now faces a decision that will impact more than just themselves, but the fate of the very Gods.
