DnD Evangelism
Submitted by tyrwench on Sun, 04/05/2009 - 16:34Is there a good time that we the Lords & Ladies of Tyr can plan a bring a friend to DnD night?
I'm envisioning a night when everyone can arrive on time and maybe we EVEN start a little EARLIER. Each of us would be invited to bring a person who is a previous-but-hasn't-played-since high school-DnDer or a newbie-DnDer. But you wouldn't have to if you don't want to.
We would need to have someone DM a new game that way everyone starts the same and we might need to include time to create characters as a group so the new-to-DnD people don't feel intimidated (For lack of a better word).
I'm thinking of this for several reasons. One to evanglize DnD to those who've never played. And a piggyback to that is to have other newbies that might join our other games merely for my selfish purposes of wanting other confused -- I mean new to DnD people to commisserate with. I feel like it is a good way for me to officially come out of the closet as a DnD gamer girl and also I just think it would be cool. I do have a few people in mind that I would invite to something like this.
What do you all think!?!

Darkfall Online
Submitted by Chadarius on Thu, 04/02/2009 - 08:38I managed to get my grubby hands on Darkfall Online! Its been launched only in Europe, but US folks can still play with perhaps some extra lag here and there. They have been releasing just a small number of licenses per day as they ramp up their server numbers slowly. This is why I'm so excited that I managed to get a copy.
Generally I'm too busy to be around or even know when the open their shop for business. It looks like a fun game, at least for me, because of its rough "kill or be killed" mentallity. You can be looted of all your stuff, so being killed actually means something. This "feature" as I call it has been missing for me since the glory days of Ultima Online.
I know there are plenty of people that hated being killed in UO back in the day. But I, for one, enjoyed that tension and thought it made the game more exciting and gave it an edge that no one has been brave enough to replicate since.
